Amsterdam-based watch retailer Ace Jewelers has established an ongoing relationship with NOMOS, having created several thoughtfully designed limited-edition pieces with the Bauhaus-inspired German brand, including 2020’s Club Campus 38 #NomiesForLife and 2019’s Zürich Weltzeit Amsterdam. Their latest collaboration — the Ace x NOMOS Club 36 Blue Limited Edition — celebrates the five-year partnership between Ace and NOMOS.
NOMOS is known for its simple, effective designs and an aesthetic distinguished by a “form follows function” approach, with designs that are almost always pared down to the essentials. However, while the brand’s designs are simple, they are far from boring. NOMOS keeps things interesting with its clever dial layouts, interesting typefaces, and effective use of color. The Ace x NOMOS Club 36 Blue Limited Edition follows this premise while offering up a fresh new take on a NOMOS classic.
A unique execution of NOMOS’ entry-level watch, the Ace x NOMOS Club 36 Blue Limited Edition features a navy and orange aesthetic which suits the design of the piece quite nicely. Its finely-grained “midnight” blue dial is marked by bright orange Arabic numerals and accents that jump off the wrist and give the watch a youthful, vibrant feel. True to the brand’s “form follows function” approach, the bright orange markers and stark white accents contrast vividly with the deep navy background, making for an extremely legible dial. The hour and minute hands are coated in white Super-LumiNova luminescent material, offering sufficient low-light legibility.
At 36 mm in diameter and 8.2 mm, the Ace x NOMOS Club 36 Blue Limited Edition has a classic, refined feel on the wrist. However, it carries a bit more wrist presence than its specs would indicate, thanks to its fully mirror-polished case and vibrant orange accents. While the piece is sold on a black Horween Shell Cordovan leather strap with a stainless steel pin buckle, it also comes with two additional NATO straps (one navy, one orange). We are particularly loving how the piece looks on the orange NATO, which allows the watch to take on a much sportier appearance while making those orange markers pop!
The technical specifications of the Ace x NOMOS Club 36 Blue Limited Edition echo its urban/sport aesthetic; the piece boasts an ample water resistance rating of 100 meters, making it suitable for swimming. Under the hood is the brand’s tried-and-tested Alpha caliber, an in-house mechanical hand-wound movement that beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and features a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The movement is impressively finished, with Glashutte ribbing, perlage, and thermally blued screws.
The Ace x NOMOS Club 36 Blue Limited Edition is limited to 150 pieces: 50 pieces with a closed caseback, and 100 pieces with a see-through sapphire caseback. Priced at 1,080 EUR and 1,340 EUR, respectively, both versions are available for purchase now at acejewelers.com.
