This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is joined by Ariel, Ripley, and David, the latter of whom is in an automotive showroom eating tiramisu and waiting for his car to be repaired. Ariel muses about why watch repair shops don’t have waiting rooms, to which Ripley replies, “That would be a six-month rental.”
It’s been a busy week in watch world, particularly for Ariel and David, who are fresh back from Geneva Watch Days. There was a heatwave in Geneva, and Ariel proclaimed to Czapek & Cie to have won the sweat-resistant bracelet contest. David’s take on GWD is that it was fun but way too much to take in during the time allotted.
The guys get down to business with a look at the new H. Moser & Cie x Studio Underd0g collab, which Ariel thinks was designed in bright colors to attract insects and birds more than people. Rick simply doesn’t get it, and David doesn’t disagree. They then turn their attention to the new Konstantin Chaykin concept watch, ThinKing, the “world’s thinnest mechanical watch.” There’s not a lot of traction among the team for this watch, either — but remember, it’s a prototype.
Rick has asked ChatGPT, “Which watch brand collaborations does no one want to see?” and the answer is the best possible argument against AI. Next up, Speake Marin has a new watch, the Ripples Skeleton, that the team has no truck with for various reasons discussed at length. All in all, it’s been an iffy week of new watches.
They wrap up with another round of Hit, Miss, Maybe.
