Sometimes subtle changes are the best way to take a collection of watches to the next logical step in their evolution. With SIHH in full swing, A. Lange & Söhne is giving two of their watches a refreshed look that focuses on materials that emphasize the brand’s established designs while preserving the essence of their respective collections. It’s a quiet change, but something fans of the Lange 31 and the Saxonia collections can appreciate for the sake of their simplicity and purity. With that said, we’re happy to share the new A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia watches in mother of pearl and the A. Lange & Söhne Lange 31 in white gold with a gray dial.
For a while, the A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia line has been considered an “entry point” collection for the brand. While the designs are minimalist in nature, the brand will now be producing two new basic Saxonia models that feature a slightly more visually textured look. The new A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia watches will be available in both white or pink gold with a solid silver dial covered in a layer of iridescent mother of pearl. Both are 35mm in diameter and carry A. Lange & Söhne’s manufacture caliber L941.1 – a manually wound movement with an impressive 45 hours of power reserve and classic Lange hand-decoration. Other design cues include rhodium or pink gold hands and markers (depending on the reference) and a white alligator leather strap with a matching buckle.
Now, the A. Lange & Söhne Lange 31, on the other hand, is also in the Saxonia line but has more going on and in a more masculine package with visual updates serving to accentuate the mechanical wonders within. With a power reserve of 31 days (“monats” in the monats-werk text on the dial, incidentally, means “month” in German), a 45.9mm case, and the brand’s patented constant-force escapement. This specific release will be available in a white gold case with a gray dial and remain limited to just 100 pieces. Besides the sheer power of the manually wound L034.1 manufacture movement, one of the more impressive mechanical points proves to be the constant-force escapement. This allows the movement to run with continuous and uniform levels of torque even as the movement begins to reach the end of its power reserve.
Additionally, this version of the A. Lange & Söhne Lange 31 will feature rhodium gold hands, a sapphire crystal caseback, and a dark brown hand-stitched alligator leather strap. To top it off, A. Lange & Söhne provides a key with an integrated backstop ratchet and torque limiter to wind the twin mainspring barrel movement.
While these are not most dramatic updates we can expect from the brand, these visual adjustments are sure to strike a chord with some collectors. The A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia reference 219.047 (white gold) and 219.043 (pink gold) will both be priced at €16,500. As we mentioned previously, the A. Lange & Söhne Lange 31 in white gold with gray dial will be limited to 100 pieces, and it will be priced at €142,300. alange-soehne.com
