The 514 part watch movement looks remarkably simple from what you can see on the dial, though it is nice to just have the time and balance wheel to look at. If you look closely on the back of the watch through the sapphire crystal exhibition window you can see the Renaud & Papi logo, which I personally have never noticed on a movement before. It is actually APRP, which stands for “Audemars Piguet Renaud & Papi as watchmaker Audemars Piguet is a large shareholder of the company. One of the issues in producing the movement was building up enough power to move all the discs at once. This was essentially the same problem Renaud & Papi had when they needed to “fix” the Harry Winston Opus 3 designed by Vianney Halter, so APRP was truly the best shop for the job.
I felt pretty lucky to have snatched one of the 4N 4N-MVT01/D01 watches to play with as only 16 exist and I was there over the years to see the entire evolution of the product. More will come in the future, but it was interesting to see it go from concept, to prototype, to final product. Thanks for sticking with it Francois! Anyhow, the retail price for the 4N is 180,000 Euros (about $235,000). If you are interested in participating in the TouchOfModern 4N sale check it out here at a price of $165,000. 4-n.fr
