Glashütte Original is a German watchmaking company founded in 1994 by Heinz W. Pfeifer with the purchase of GUB (Glashütter Uhrenbetrieb GmbH) – a privately owned company that was a remnant of the World War II consolidation of mechanical watchmaking in Eastern Germany. However, its roots can be traced back to 1845 when watchmakers Julian Assman, Moritz Grossman, Ferdinand Adolf Lange, and Adolf Schneider moved to Glashütte, Saxony. A private loan from the Kingdom of Saxony allowed the group of watchmakers to operate independently and open the German School of Watchmaking Glashütte in 1878.
Glashütte Original has partnered with Ryan Pyle, a Canadian adventurer, an award-winning photographer, and Boris Herrmann, an offshore sailor and environmentalist. Both partnerships bring Glashütte Original into the rigors of land and sea adventures and prove the capabilities of Glashütte Original watches.
Glashütte Original manufactures 95% of its watch parts in-house and prides itself on a rich history of the highest level of German watchmaking and testing standards. Each Glashütte Original watch undergoes rigorous testing that surpasses the requirements of the standard German Chronometer test. Glashütte Original collections include the Pano, Senator, Spezialist, Vintage, and Ladies collections with their most popular models being the SeaQ, PanoMaticLunar, and Seventies Chronograph.
Glashütte Original is available worldwide in over 40 countries and is one of the highest-end watchmakers in the Swatch Group. Glashütte Original manufactures handmade watches while using innovative watchmaking technology and is based in Glashuette, Germany. Each Glashüette Original watch bears the text “Made In Germany” proudly on the dial and movement.
