My name is Evangelos Sarikas and, in my opinion, the pilot watch has been the most successful type of timepiece design for more than a century. We have been working on Icarus’ freehand sketches which capture the pure lines of the Theta Icarus for months, meticulously caring for every detail, curve and line. The sketches were then given volume by 3D rendering, followed by two working prototypes. Now, I’m ready to take my idea to the community and hope for a successful crowdfunding campaign.
The Theta Icarus series is a limited edition, created by Greek Theta watches. It consists of 300 individually numbered watches. There is also the possibility of engraving a message or a name on the back case for every new owner of a Theta watch in the event that production reaches a crowdfunding stretch goal of 500 units.
Icarus comes in a polished steel or plated rose gold IP case, each of which is inspired by a vintage pilot watch design I love. We chose to combine the silver-colored steel case with a blue-black dial, while for the rose gold tone we chose a dark blue one – which is actually a very interesting combination and a beautiful choice because, as you will discover, the color changes from darker to brighter and lighter depending on the light angle.
Adding the date indicator felt like we were upgrading a classic. Icarus’ pilot design is what makes it an everyday useful tool and an elegant accessory. The watch’s diameter is 43mm wide. Its thin case is 11.2mm thick. Its relative light weight make it perfectly suitable for both men and women to wear.
The beating heart of Icarus is a Swiss-made ETA 2824-2 automatic movement, tested rigorously, offering high quality, accuracy, time endurance and a 40-hour power reserve. With 25 jewels and operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it is the perfect choice for a watch like this.
An automatic watch is a living thing, as you soon discover when you hold one for the first time. One of the beauty of them is that the seconds hand travels in a smooth “sweep.” The hand-crafted rotor is included in Theta Icarus Automatic with engraved Theta logo.
Stereo indexes and minute hands covered with strong luminescence, Super-LumiNova C3, gives you the ability to read time in the dark. The distinctive triangle on the top provides a better sense of direction and orientation. The case, made of 316L stainless steel, gives a robust sensation. The Theta Icarus bezel is brushed. Sapphire crystal on both sides are improved for legibility by a double anti-reflective coating. The caseback features a see-through exhibition sapphire glass, giving you the chance to observe the harmonious movement of the Swiss mechanism.
The strap is made of genuine Italian calf leather, giving a light feeling on your wrist. It is carefully designed, with anti-allergenic materials to prevent any skin irritation. It also has a quick-release system for the strap, making it easy and simple to change the strap to something else in order to mix up the style of the watch.
Aiming for an elegant and classic but not boring design, we focused on the details and gave Icarus a screw down diamond crown. Is secures firmly and, along with the other parts used on the Theta Icarus, it helps make it waterproof to 100m.
