Jubileon is an independent and aspiring watchmaker in sunny Singapore. Founded in 2015, we have deep respect and reverence for the traditions of watchmaking, and our dream is to produce exquisite Made in Singapore watches one day. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce our first ever watch series, the Swiss Made Superellipse, which is designed by us in Singapore.
The Superellipse by Jubileon
From the beginning, we have had a very clear vision of the Superellipse – a premium Swiss Made automatic watch, with a unique design inspired by the iconic cushion shape, and definitely with a screwed down bezel. After several iterations, we finalized a design of the Jubileon Superellipse that is best described as industrial, which is strongly influenced by our background in the engineering of aircraft engines, as well as in metalworking. We named the watch the Superellipse, a term with origin dating back to 1959, when Danish poet and scientist Piet Hein first used it to describe the mathematical representation of the cushion shape.
Our philosophy with the Jubileon Superellipse rests on two key pillars – (1) to carve out a niche in the crowded horology landscape with a strong and outstanding design, and (2) to ensure that our customers receive a high quality timepiece that they will be proud to wear on their wrists. To ensure that the Superellipse is truly unique, we custom design every component of the watch (except for movement and strap) rather than mix-and-match stock components. To ensure customer satisfaction with the quality of the Superellipse, we partner with a reputable watchmaking company in Switzerland for production, assembly, and quality control. As such, the Jubileon Superellipse is Swiss Made – a symbol of quality reserved only for watches that fulfill a list of stringent criteria.
A distinctive case
The case is definitely the star of the Superellipse. Affordable watches are typically built with mass-produced and generic cases with some minor modifications (sometimes none). On the other hand, the Jubileon Superellipse features a 100% in-house case design, and is manufactured in a small, custom batch just for us. In addition, we have engineered the watch case with high standards that are fitting even for an aircraft engine.
The 316L stainless steel case is a 3-component assembly, consisting of a bezel, a main body, and a caseback. The bezel and caseback are each secured onto the main body by 4 screws with custom decorative heads. To stand out from the crowd, we have specified that the case is brushed to achieve a hairline finish, while the chamfers are accented with mirror polish. This mixed surface finish is typically only found in higher-end products as it requires highly skilled craftsmen and is expensive to produce, especially on a uniquely shaped case like that of the Jubileon Superellipse.
The caseback is an exhibition type that reveals the movement underneath. The name of the watch and limited edition numbering are laser-engraved on the top and bottom halves of the caseback, respectively. Consistent with our philosophy of offering top-grade components, both the front and back crystals are sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating.
Swiss Made ETA 2824-2 movement
At the heart of the Jubileon Superellipse is the venerable Swiss Made ETA 2824-2 movement. Watches at this price range typically use inferior Japanese or Chinese movements that are substantially cheaper, but that is not the case for the Superellipse. With its proven reliability, the Jubileon Superellipse can be expected to be maintenance-free for many years to come. Spec-wise, the ETA 2824-2 beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (8 ticks per second), with 38 hours of power reserve. We use the version with a 3H date window.
Dial design
The dial has a simple and clean design, with several distinguishing details that should satisfy those with keen eyes. The individually applied baton hour markers have a custom facetted design, while the minute markers and wording are pad printed. For the production unit, we have also enhanced the minute markers’ design such that they trace out a superellipse shape (see the render under Style Selection).
The leaf-shaped minute and hour hands, which complement the curves of the superellipse, are also our 100% original design. The superellipse-shaped central axes further enforce the overall theme of the watch. All 3 hands are applied with Super-Luminova C1.
For the wordings, backers can choose either the Singapore Edition, which includes the word Singapore on the dial, or the International Edition, which does not include the word Singapore on the dial. Note: For ourselves, we are going with the Singapore Edition!
Style selection
The Superellipse is offered in three variations – Jet Black, Sunburst Grey, and Metallic Silver. Backers can choose to pair each style with either a genuine calf leather strap (with optional crocodile embossing), or with a black woven nylon. All straps come with a pin buckle clasp, with the Jubileon logo engraved. The clasp is brushed to the same finish as the case.
