“As children, we always dreamed about space. Our eyes would see something down here on Planet Earth but inevitably return to the stars, looking up and wondering if we would ever get there ourselves. Then, in July 1969, we did: the astronauts of Apollo 11 led us to the moon.” So say the brothers and co-founders of Bovarro Watches, Ary and Bob.

Now, the Moon 1969 watch, a Bovarro Swiss-made automatic timepiece, is on Kickstarter to celebrate that achievement. Designed to resemble the hatch and knob on the Apollo 11 spacecraft, bezels and all, this is a watch that is both unique and functional.

Initially, the duo created the bezel to look exactly like the Apollo 11 hatch with the 42 screws, but the look of the watch did not quite come out as they had expected. To make the watch more attractive, the brothers had to tweak the appearance a little and at the same time try to maintain the aesthetics. So they decided to reduce the screws around the bezel to eight and shape the crown somewhat like the knob on the right side of the hatch – and the look of the watch came out exactly the way they had envisioned.

The watches will come in a 42mm case with 22mm lugs and a 46mm case with 24mm lugs in 316L stainless steel – or 18K solid gold! Watch enthusiasts will have the option of choosing an Italian leather, German-made strap in either black or brown. The watches will also come in limited-edition series from #0-500 and will have unique serial numbers engraved on the case backs.

The brothers chose to use the ETA 2824-2 movement because it is a good time-keeping machine with good accuracy, reliability, and durability, and used by many Swiss watch brands.

Every Bovarro watch will come in a high-gloss piano finish black wooden box with a model moon to celebrate the 1969 lunar landing, as well as a warranty card that covers the watches for 2 years against manufacturer defects.
